Those days between your SL sessions is when your body repairs and becomes stronger. By lifting, even just doing isolation stuff, you're not allowing your body to rest. In regards to the low deadlift volume, I always recommend working sets of 5 up to the working set for stronglifts and icf 5x5. IIRC, Bill Star's 5x5 version recommends this as well. Do you feel that approach alleviated some of the low deadlift volume issues seen in these routines?
